DAP

The Direct Aid Program (DAP) is a flexible, small grants program for selected recipient countries, funded by the Australian Government through AusAID and managed by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. The goal of DAP is to address humanitarian hardship while at the same time fulfilling international relations and public diplomacy objectives, and thereby to promote a distinctive and positive image of Australia. In 2009-10, the total DAP budget is $7.5 million.

DAP is available to individuals, community groups and NGOs engaged in development activities, in designated countries, on a not-for-profit basis. The program is aimed primarily at supporting small-scale development projects/activities that involve beneficiaries in the identification, design and management of the projects. Attention is given to projects providing direct benefits to those most in need in the local community, including vulnerable or disadvantaged groups, children and youth.

Eligible activities may include; Community health, Education, Small Scale infrastructure, Sanitation, Rural development, Environmental development, Gender equality, Conferences and training activities, Cultural and sporting activities.

Applications will only be accepted on an Australian High Commission and must be in English. Funds will only be paid into appropriate bank accounts.
